Digital Design Internet Banner Advert Design
Internet Banner Adverts, aka "Display Ads" are one of the few forms of advertising that have the ability to translate into instant sales. Printed adverts, for the most part, merely serve as brand awareness, but digital adverts have the added benefit of being clickable. Great graphics with a catchy call-to-action placed on the right website in a prime location has the ability to bring in quality traffic to your website.
Choosing the right type of banner advert
Banner Advert Dimensions
A banner advert can be literally any size and shape, and many websites call for custom sizes, but fortunately most websites conform to the Google AdSenses standard sizes, namely:
- leaderboard (728x90)
- banner (468x60)
- half banner (234x60)
- button (125x125)
- skyscraper (120x600)
- wide skyscraper (160x600)
- small rectangle (180x150)
- vertical banner (120 x 240)
- small square (200x200)
- square (250x250)
- medium rectangle (300x250)
- large rectangle (336x280)
- half page (300x600)
- portrait (300x1050)
- mobile banner (320x50)
- large leaderboard (970x90)
- billboard (970x250)
So unless you already have specifications from the website you intend to advertise on, it's a good idea to choose one of the above sizes as you are likelier more able to use the same advert in multiple places, including within the Google AdSense network.
Animated or Static Banner Adverts
Many websites disallow animation or cap the size-limit that an advert file can reach, so a static advert is always a good choice. If animation is desired, it's always best to go subtle. Nobody likes their reading experience ruined by vigorous jiggling adverts in their peripheral vision. Although, you may grab their eye with that method, the only clicking they are likely to do on your advert is the little x in the corner to close it.
Banner Advert Location
If you don't choose the right websites to advertise on, you may as well just set fire to your money as that will achieve the same results. Another problem lies in the fact that there are no set prices in the internet advertising industry. Digital Advertising costs vary greatly from site to site, making it difficult for those not in the industry to recognize a great opportunity from daylight robbery. For this reason, if we design an internet banner advert for you, we also provide a free advisement service whereby we will advise on how to find the best places to advertise and whether an advertising rate is justified or not.
